GOD AS PLURAL NAME/IMAGE

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning GOD['ĕlôhîym] created the heaven and the earth.

Genesis 1:26

And said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

‘ĕlôhîym

el-o-heem’

PLURAL of el-o’-ah; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: – angels, X exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.

‘ĕlôahh  ’ĕlôahh
el-o’-ah, el-o’-ah
(The second form is rare); probably prolonged (emphatically) from H410; a deity or the deity: – God, god. See H430.

el-o’-ah, el-o’-ah

(The second form is rare); probably prolonged (emphatically) from  strength; as adjective mighty; especially the Almighty (but used also of any deity): – God (god); a deity or the deity: – God, god.

And its derivatives are often used (about 2k times)from Genesis to Deuteronomy.

Genesis 18:1-3

And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo[behold], three men[shâlôsh] stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed[shâchâh shaw-khaw']himself toward the ground, And said,My Lord,if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant.

shâlôsh  shâlôsh  shelôshâh  shelôshâh

(1,2) shaw-loshe’, (3,4) shel-o-shaw’

The last two forms being masculine; a primitive number; three; occasionally (ordinal) third, or (multiplicative) thrice: -  + fork, + often [-times], third, thir [-teen, -teenth], three, + thrice.

shâchâh

shaw-khaw’

A primitive root; to depress, that is, prostrate (especially reflexively in homage to royalty or God): – bow (self) down, crouch, fall down (flat), humbly beseech, do (make) obeisance, do reverence, make to stoop, WORSHIP.

Why kneel, bow or worship simple humans?

JESUS AS GOD

OLD TESTAMENT PASSAGES CLAIMED TO REFER TO THE SON.

Psalm 2:12; Psalm 110:12; Isaiah 9; Daniel 7:1-14

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a child is born[Jesus], unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, THE MIGHTY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

John 1:1-4

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, AND THE WORD WAS GOD. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

“The WORD”[Logos]=Jesus

Compare:

John 1:14; 1st John 1:1-3; Revelation 19:13

John 20:28-29

And Thomas answered and said unto him, MY LORD AND MY GOD. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

John 10:30

I and my Father ARE ONE.

1st John 5:7

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and THESE THREE ARE ONE.

(not found in any Greek manuscript before the sixteenth century, commonly found in Latin manuscripts)

John 8:58; John 10:30; John 10:38; Colossians 1:16; Colossians 2:9;

THE PROBLEM WITH “BECOMING GOD”

Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

Deuteronomy 6:13; Luke 4:8.

John 5:18

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

Compare:

Fall down, shall bow, worship, bend your knees.

Genesis 24:26; 1st Kings 19:18; Isaiah 44:17-19;

TRU WORSHIP IS FOR TRUE GOD

Esther 3:2; Daniel 3; Acts 10:25-26; 14:11-15.

SO, WHY JESUS?

Mathew 2:2, 2:11, 14:33, 28:9.

proskuneō

pros-koo-neh’-o

From a preposition of direction; forward to, that is, toward and probably a derivative of dog? (meaning to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand); to fawn or crouch to, that is, (literally or figuratively) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore): – WORSHIP.

THE UNITY OF GOD

Deuteronomy 6:4

Hear,O Israel: The LORD our God is one['echâd] LORD…

Compare:

Isaiah 44:6

‘echâd

ekh-awd’

A numeral ; properly united, that is, one; or (as an ordinal) first: – a, alike, alone, altogether, and, any (-thing), apiece, a certain [dai-] ly, each (one), + eleven, every, few, first, + highway, a man, once, one, only, other, some, together.
